Men’s Tennis Begins Conference Play at Buffalo on Saturday

Rockets and Bulls take the court for the first time since the 2023 MAC Championship semifinals
TOLEDO, Ohio – Defending Mid-American Conference Champion Toledo will begin its quest to keep the trophy in the Glass City as it begins conference play in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon at the UB Tennis Courts/ Miller Tennis Center.
Saturday's match will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Rockets defeated the Bulls in the 2023 MAC Championship semifinals in Kalamazoo, Mich. last April.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo (5-7) closed out its non-conference schedule following a close 4-3 setback to defending ASUN Champion Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 29. Senior Pawit Sornlaksup, senior Marko Galic, and freshman Poonthong Komolpisut all won their respective courts after losing the doubles team point. Sornlaksup leads the team with a 7-1 dual record, followed by junior Hanamichi Carvajal who is 7-2 in his first semester with the Rockets, and Galic who is 5-6 this spring.
Milestone Markers
Daniils Snaiders along with doubles partner Fin Mancamara swept the MAC Player of the Week honors this week after Buffalo (4-5) defeated 2023 MAAC Champion Siena and fell to No.23 Princeton to earn a split over the weekend in the matches of non-conference play. Snaiders leads the Bulls with a 4-3 record, mostly from the top court, and a 12-7 singles record including the fall tour.

What's Next
Toledo will play its first home conference matches on Friday, March 15 vs. Ball State and Sunday, March 17 vs. Western Michigan. Both matches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

- Sornlaksup has 68 career singles wins all from the top court, which ranks No.4 in Toledo history, and trails UT Hall of Famer Jared Miller (2006-09) who won 72 singles matches in his career. Nutthavit Likitkumchorn holds the program record with 99 wins from 2008-11.
- Toledo shared the 2023 Regular Season MAC Championship title with Western Michigan and won the 2023 MAC Championship Tournament title, a first for the program in 50 years.
- Sornlaksup is the two-time defending MAC Player of the Year with a 20-0 singles record and 14-3 doubles record against conference opponents.
