Rockets fall to New Mexico in Game 2 to settle for a split
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Toledo softball team split its second doubleheader of GCU's Purple Classic on Sunday, defeating Montana 6-5 in the opener before falling to New Mexico 5-1 in the afternoon contest.
In the victory over Montana, the Rockets fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but rallied for the win. RBI singles by junior Sidney Griffith and senior Riley Mohr in the fourth inning gave Toledo a 6-5 lead that held up as the final margin. Sophia Knight (5-2) went the distance for the win.
Toledo again found itself down 4-0 in its second game vs. New Mexico but this time could not muster enough offense for a comeback in the 5-1 loss. Junior Eli Enriquez put Toledo on the board with an RBI single in the third for the Rockets' only score. Junior Kylee Graham (1-2) pitched all six innings in defeat.
Enriquez went 4-for-5 at the plate in the two games on Saturday and added two more stolen bases. Senior Jenna Kroll added three hits while Griffith drove in a team-high three runs.
Toledo (6-6) will wrap up the Purple Classic on Sunday with a rematch vs. Grand Canyon (9:30/ 11:30 a.m. EST) at the GCU Softball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
Toledo 6, Montana 5
- Montana reached home on an error and Riley Peschk hit a three-run homer to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead.
- Eli Enriquez reached home on a fielder's choice to get UT on the board in the bottom of the first.
- Enriquez hit a sacrifice fly and Sidney Griffith hit a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4 in the second.
- Montana added a run in the fourth, but Griffith and Riley Mohr each drilled RBI singles to take a 6-5 lead in their half of the fourth.
- The Grizz got one runner on base to start the seventh, but Sophia Knight put down the next three batters to end the game.
New Mexico 5, Toledo 1
- New Mexico scored two unearned runs in the first.
- UNM doubled its lead with a two-run double in the second inning, 4-0.
- Enriquez got the Rockets on the board with an RBI single to left field in the top of the third.
- The Lobos added one more insurance run in the fifth off an RBI single to make 5-1.
