Toledo Ends Non-Conference Play With Match at FGCU on Thursday

Rockets take on defending ASUN champion; third match against a league champ this season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Nearly two weeks since its last match, the Toledo men's tennis team will head down to Fort Myers, Fla., to play its final non-conference match of the year at 2023 ASUN Champion Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Feb 29.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo (5-6) fell to Cleveland State and Notre Dame while picking up a victory at Chicago State two weeks ago. The Rockets have had a full week of practice to prepare for Thursday's final match before Mid-American Conference play begins. Junior Hanamichi Carvajal has won his last five matches, mostly from the No. 3 court, while senior Pawit Sornlaksup has won his last four matches at the top court.
Milestone Markers
FGCU (1-5) is the defending ASUN Tournament Champion, having captured the program's fourth tournament title in 2023. The Eagles went 15-9 (7-1 ASUN) last season before falling to No. 6 seed Georgia in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. This campaign, FGCU opened the spring with a win over Louisiana on Jan. 20, but has since lost four straight matches.
Toledo and FGCU have only played one other time, with the Rockets falling 5-4 on Mar. 9, 2007.

- Sornlaksup has 67 career singles wins going into this weekend, which ranks No. 4 in Toledo history. He trails Varsity T Hall of Famer, No. 3 Jared Miller (2006-09) who won 72 matches. Nutthavit Likitkumchorn holds the all-time record with 99 singles wins in his career from 2008-11.
- Sornlaklsup also cracked the Top 10 in program history for his 110 combined career wins and trails by one match to No. 9 Travis Curran (2004-07) who left his mark with 111 combined victories.
