Strong distance crew looks to lead Toledo in two-day meet on Friday and Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track & field team will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24. The meet will be held at the Bowen Field House beginning at 10:00 a.m. each day.
Toledo will have representative in 11Â events as it looks to improve upon last season's seventh-place finish.
Seniors Laura Nicholson and Vilde Henriksen are among those who will look to make an impact for the Rockets. Henriksen set a school record earlier this year at the 2024 David Hemery Valentine Invitational in the 3000m with a time of 9:13.62. She sits as the top overall seed in the 3000m. Nicholson joined Henriksen by also setting a school record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in the mile with a 4:34.35 finish, which is the fastest time in MAC history. She enters the MAC Championships as the top overall seed in the mile.
"Our goal is to have some individual MAC champions and finish in the top half of the league," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "We have two runners, Vilde and Laura, sitting as No. 1 seeds in their events so we feel good about that.
"It's the deepest field I've ever seen in the MAC. I would argue the MAC is the most competitive conference in the country, especially in the distance events. It makes it more exciting but it also makes points a little harder to come by."
Toledo remained at 16th in the latest release of the NCAA D-I Great Lakes Region rankings, as announced by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
