Rockets Facing Tough Competition in West Virginia this Weekend

Toledo will face WVU and two-time defending CAA champion William & Mary in Morgantown
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will head to Morgantown, W. Va. this weekend for two matches at the Summit Tennis Academy. UT will face West Virginia on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:00 p.m. and William & Mary on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo (3-2) is coming off a 5-2 loss at Michigan State last week. Senior Sloane Teske and junior Audrey Moutama were the only Rockets to register individual victories. Teske's win came in her first match since last April after missing the entire fall season due to injury, while Moutama's victory was her third in a row.
Rockets' Victory Milestones
Teske's win at Michigan State was the 78th of her career. That total ranks second all-time behind senior Cassie Alcala who holds the school record with 86 singles victories.
Alcala's combined record sits at 152 career victories, and she is three wins away from taking the crown from Martina Wodzinski (2007-10). Wodzinski holds the school record with 154 wins in singles and doubles competition.
Head coach Tracy Mauntler needs three more victories to reach the 250-win milestone.
About West Virginia
West Virginia (7-1) defeated Cleveland State and Radford last weekend after losing its first match of the year to VCU on Feb. 3. Â WVU's Maya Bordereau and Maja Dodik are 7-0 in doubles competition, while Bordereau, Dodik, and Momoko Nagato all have six wins under their belts entering this weekend.
Toledo upset West Virginia 4-3 in their last meeting on Feb. 22, 2022 in Morgantown, W. Va. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 6-2 against the Rockets.
About William & Mary
William & Mary (3-1) is coming off a 4-0 blanking of St. John's on Sunday. Junior Hedda Gurholt is the reigning 2023 CAA Player of the Year and was named CAA Player of the Week on Tuesday for her win over No. 79-ranked of Maryland at the No. 2 court last weekend. The Tribe is the two-time defending Coastal Athletic Association champion and has made two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, losing in the first round to NC State in 2022 and Duke in 2023.
Saturday's match will be the first meeting between Toledo and William & Mary.
