Rockets set to take on conference foes this weekend
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team continues its fall slate at the Mid-American Conference Qualifying Event on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 25-27. The tournament is being hosted by Western Michigan at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich.
"We are pumped up to face our MAC friends in Western's building," said Head Coach Al Wermer. "We've had some good fortune in Kalamazoo in the past couple years, but this is going to be a big test in a high-stakes environment."
Each team gets two spots in the A Flight for both singles and doubles. The champion of both flights will be the MAC designate at the ITA Conference Masters tournament in November.
In a singles A flight, Poonthong Komolpisut and Hanamichi Carvajal will represent the Rockets. Komolpisut will take on Chen Tang from Buffalo while Carvajal will compete against Ashton Adesoro from Western Michigan. Cole Cozens, Charlie Snow and Joshua Mackey will also compete in the singles competition in the B, C and E flights, respectively.
Two Toledo doubles pairs will see action in the doubles A flight. Komolpisut/Mackey will play Western Michigan's Pierce/Davison while Carvajal/Snow earned a bye in the first match and will compete against a duo from either Ball State or Western Michigan. Matias Olivero and Cole Cozens make up the last doubles team for the Rockets, competing in the B flight against a duo from Western Michigan or UIC.
