Toledo Falls to North Dakota State in Three Sets

Rockets return to court Saturday morning vs. Portland State

FARGO, N.D. – The Toledo women's volleyball team opened its weekend at North Dakota State's tournament by falling to the host Bison in three sets.

The Rockets dropped the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores before losing the third set, 25-17.

Senior Taylor Alt tallied a team-high 12 kills for Toledo, while senior Abby Erickson added seven terminations. Fifth-year seniors Rhyenne Filisi and Ryann Jaqua led Toledo with 14 digs and four blocks, respectively. Seniors Mary-Kate Lopez and Payton Morman split time at setter and collected 15 and seven assists, respectively.

Toledo will face Portland State at 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday morning.

1st Set (25-19, NDSU)

NDSU opened the match with three straight points to take an early lead, but Toledo fought back to tie the set at 6-6.The Rockets used a 4-0 run later in the set to take their first lead, 11-10, but the Bison answered with six straight points to take a 16-11 lead. Toledo wasn't able to overcome that deficit and eventually dropped the first set, 25-19.

2nd Set (25-19, NDSU)

The Bison grabbed an early 9-4 lead and never looked back. Toledo trimmed the deficit to two, 13-11, but would get no closer. North Dakota State won the second set, 25-19, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

3rd Set (25-17, NDSU)

Toledo led early in the set, 4-3, but a 6-1 North Dakota State run quickly put UT in a 9-5 hole. The Rockets couldn't claw their way back as the Bison continued to score points in bunches. NDSU hit .405 in the third set en route to a 25-17 victory to complete the sweep.
