Home matches vs. Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Memphis highlight 14-match home slate
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team released its 2023 schedule on Wednesday, which is highlighted by 14 home matches at Savage Arena.
"This year the schedule is very challenging and I am excited to see how our program attacks it," head coach Jason Oliver said. "We have a high RPI schedule that should help push our team and the RPI of the league. Two major trips and home matches against some great programs should get the attention of our student-athletes and the volleyball community here in Toledo. The level of energy in Savage Arena this year will be at an all-time high."
Following an exhibition match vs. Wright State on Aug. 19, Toledo will participate in three non-conference tournaments to get ready for Mid-American Conference play. The Rockets will head to tournaments hosted by Wake Forest (Aug. 25-26) and North Dakota State (Sept. 8-9) in addition to hosting their own tournament at Savage Arena from Aug. 31-Sept. 2. UT will welcome Virginia Tech, Memphis, and Youngstown State for three days of volleyball action.
Prior to the start of MAC play, Toledo will host Oakland on Sept. 12 before facing Notre Dame in a home-and-home the following weekend. UT will head to South Bend on Sept. 15 then return home to host the Fighting Irish on Sept. 17. The last time the Rockets hosted Notre Dame was Sept. 2, 2017.
Conference play begins the following weekend at home with two matches against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 21-22). The Rockets will also host Buffalo (Oct. 13-14), Ohio (Oct. 27), Kent State (Oct. 28), Western Michigan (Nov. 10-11), and Ball State (Nov. 16) in 2023. Road MAC opponents are Central Michigan (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), Bowling Green (Oct. 6), Miami (Oct. 8), Ball State (Oct. 18), Akron (Oct. 20-21), and Northern Illinois (Nov. 3-4).
The 2023 MAC Tournament will be held Nov. 20-22 at the location of the regular season champion.
The Rockets are coming off a second straight NIVC berth in 2022 and posted a 19-13 overall record last season and they will be led by three-time All-MAC honoree Taylor Alt.
