Junior infielder hit .533 and stole seven bases at NIU
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo junior infielder Jeron Williams was named Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday following an outstanding weekend at Northern Illinois.
This is the second weekly honor for Williams this season. He shares this week's honor with Miami's Evan Appelwick.
Williams was terrific last weekend in Toledo's series sweep of Northern Illinois, hitting .533 and slugging .867 while setting the tone for a UT offense that averaged 10.0 runs per game. The nation's top base stealer, Williams was a force on the basepaths all weekend long, going a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen-base attempts. The Archbold, Ohio native now has 46 stolen bases this year, putting him just four stolen bases away from tying the all-time MAC single-season stolen base record of 50 set by Central Michigan's Larry Lamphere in 1988.
In each of Toledo's three games over the weekend, Williams had multiple hits, scored two runs, and stole two bases. He stole a weekend-high three bases in Friday's extra-inning victory and his four hits in Saturday's game were the most by a Rocket hitter this weekend. Williams homered and drove in three runs in the Rockets' 18-12 win on Sunday.
Williams leads the MAC in stolen bases (46) and hits (83) and ranks second in batting average (.405) and runs scored (59).
