TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team enters this Friday's match vs. Miami sitting atop the Mid-American Conference East Division standings with a perfect 5-0 league record (13-3 overall). The Rockets are looking to defend a six-match winning streak as they take the court vs. the Redhawks at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
Toledo and Miami last took the court together in the semifinals at the 2022 MAC Championships, where the Rockets edged out the RedHawks 4-1 to advance to the finals.
For the fifth consecutive week, Toledo is ranked among the top-75 women's tennis programs, coming in at No. 66 in the ITA Division I Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-point this week.
About the Rockets
Toledo collected two 6-1 victories last weekend vs. Buffalo and Bowling Green to extend its winning streak to six matches. Toledo's 5-0 MAC record is its best start to conference play ever.
The No. 3 doubles team of Cassie Alcala and Laura Morera clinched both doubles team points for the Rockets over the weekend, marking the seventh-straight time UT has secured the doubles point in a match.
Alcala has defended the No. 1 court for her last six matches and 11-straight times against MAC opponents, and leads the team with a 15-2 singles record. Other top Rockets include Sloane Teske and Shalini Tallamraju, who have identical 14-3, 5-0 MAC individual records, and Sanjana Tallamraju who has a 13-3, 5-0 MAC record mostly from the No. 5 court. Teske's efforts over the weekend earned her MAC Singles Player of the Week honors on Thursday.Â
About Miami (9-10, 3-2 MAC)
After a conference-opening loss to Buffalo on March 19, Miami had won three matches in a row before falling to the Bulls again on Sunday by a 4-3 decision. Laura Rico is the only RedHawk with an unblemished record in conference play at the No. 1 court, and has teamed up with Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek as the No. 1 double steam with a 4-1 record in MAC play. Rico played at the No. 2 spot last season and has dropped three-straight matches to Teske.
