Toledo put up 14 hits in Game 1 victory, falls in extra innings in nightcap against Ohio
"I can't say enough great things about this team and how they competed," head coach Jessica Bracamonte said. "It takes a lot to be able to say you're extremely proud of your team's performance when you don't come out on top, but I am. We played Toledo softball and made a very good Ohio team have to work extremely hard to take the series. We made adjustments from yesterday to today, and executed our game plan to take game one and compete until the very end of game two. Looking forward to a weekend to rest coming up and then getting back to work for our next series against Western."
In Game 1, Lauren Erickson went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs, including a three-run triple in the first inning. Ohio tied the game at 3-3 with three unearned runs in the bottom of the first, but Toledo dominated the rest of the way. Sophia Knight gave up a homer and two doubles in the opening frame but settled down to hold Ohio scoreless through the final six innings.
Â
Ohio (26-19, 16-7 MAC) played catchup the entirety of the second game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9 before winning it in the ninth on a walk-off RBI double by Shelby Westler. Knight (8-9) took the loss in relief of starter Erin Hunt. The victory won the series for the Bobcats, 2-1.
