Junior guard averaged 26.5 ppg and 6.5 apg to help Rockets win 15th straight and third straight outright MAC crown
TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior guard RayJ Dennis has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the fifth time this season after helping the Toledo men's basketball team (25-6, 16-2 MAC) cap off an historic league campaign last week with road victories over Central Michigan and Ball State. Dennis' honor marks the sixth time a Rocket has received the conference's weekly award.
Dennis averaged 26.5 ppg, 6.5 apg, 2.5 rpg and 2.0 spg and shot an impressive 63.6% (21-of-33) from the field and 71.4% (5-of-7) from three-point range in UT's two victories. The two wins propelled the Rockets to their third straight outright MAC title as well as their school-record 15th consecutive victory, a streak that is tied for the longest in the nation.
Dennis opened the week with a 21-point, six-assist performance in UT's 99-65 triumph over the Chippewas. The 21-point outing gave Dennis 1,001 points in his Toledo career, making him the fifth Rocket ever to score 1,000 points in his first two seasons.
Dennis closed out his regular season by scoring a career-high 32 points and dishing out seven assists in an 87-81 win over the Cardinals. He was 12-of-20 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Dennis' three-pointer with 4:37 remaining put the Rockets up 78-69 and helped hold off the Cardinals' comeback bid.
A Plainfield, Ill. native, Dennis ranks second in the MAC with 19.4 ppg as well as 14th nationally with a MAC-best 5.9 apg.
