TOLEDO, Ohio – Fresh off a series sweep, the Toledo baseball team heads to UT Martin for a two-game midweek series in its final tune-up prior to Mid-American Conference play.
The Rockets and Skyhawks will play in Martin, Tenn. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will start at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Toledo is coming off a three-game series sweep at Middle Tennessee during which it scored 32 runs and hit nine home runs. After winning both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, the Rockets held on to win, 11-7, on Sunday in a slugfest.
UT hit .360 and slugged .685 over the weekend to muscle its way to a sweep. Caden Konczak and Garret Pike both hit .500 to lead the way, while Owen Jackson (.462), Daunte DeCello (.429), and Jeron Williams (.429) all hit over .400 as well. Konczak, Pike, and Williams all hit two home runs and Pike led the team with eight RBIs.
Toledo's pitching staff was equally effective and was led by Noah Johnson's six shutout innings in the series opener. Cal McAninch and Camryn Szynski both turned in scoreless outings of the bullpen to earn saves as well.
Following their offensively-charged weekend, the Rockets rank atop the MAC in home runs (19) and 13th in the nation in home runs per game (2.1). Toledo also ranks second in slugging percentage (.517) and third in on-base percentage (.387).
Individually, Cal McAninch (2.92) and Noah Johnson (3.68) both rank in the Top 10 in the MAC in ERA and Johnson sits tied for sixth in the MAC in strikeouts (18).
MAC play begins this weekend with a three-game series at Miami. First pitch for the series opener on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m.
