Toledo Wins on the Road 4-3 Over Louisiana Tech
3/4/2023 5:03:00 PM | Women's Tennis
TAMPA, Fla. – The Toledo women's tennis team got back in the win column with a 4-3 victory over Louisiana Tech in the first match of its spring break trip on Saturday afternoon in Tampa, Fla.
"I am so incredibly proud of the fight we showed in singles today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "The conditions were tough – 85 degrees and sunny. I was concerned with how our Midwest bodies were going to deal with the heat, but the players battled and left it all out there. LA Tech is a well-coached team who played us so tough. I am super proud of this squad."
Sloane Teske and Mariona Perez recorded the first win of the afternoon at the No. 1 doubles court, but Louisiana Tech took the doubles team point from two 6-3 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.
Teske tied the match at 1-1 with a two-set victory from the No. 2 court. Shalini Tallamraju put Toledo ahead in the match with a two-set decision from the No. 4 court. Perez captured a huge comeback win from the No. 3 court while LA Tech stayed within one point of the Rockets with a win from the No.6 court. Cassie Alcala clinched match point for the Rockets with a three-set decision over Leonie Schuknecht from the No. 1 court. The final court went in favor of the Lady Techsters but the match went to the Rockets, 4-3.
Toledo (8-2) will take the court tomorrow vs. the University of South Florida, with the first serve scheduled for noon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
