Toledo goes 1-2 in series vs. defending MAC Champions in Oxford, Ohio
Aubrey Reed's solo homer in the top of the fourth put Toledo to within one run, 4-3, to Miami in the opening game of the doubleheader. That would be as close to catching the Redhawks as the Rockets would get. Miami's Chloe Parks cleared the bases with a triple to right field in the fifth inning to end the game 12-4.
Jenna Kroll's solo home run in the third inning of Game 2 put Toledo ahead 2-0, but Miami answered with three runs in its half of the inning. The Rockets closed the gap to 5-4 in the fifth, but the Redhawks score one run in the sixth to go up 6-4, winning the game and the series.
Sophia Knight lasted 4.0 innings on the mound and gave up eight runs against the Redhawks in the Game 1 loss. Â Erin Hunt threw four strikeouts in 6.0 innings in Game 2 and gave up four hits in defeat.
Kroll's homer was her fourth of the season and 15th of her career to push her into the No. 9 spot on Toledo's all-time career list passing Bailey Curry who hit 14 long balls, all in 2018.
Toledo (11-15, 4-4 MAC) will be back home at Scott Park this Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2 to host Akron, with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and a single game starting at noon on Sunday.
