Toledo Visits Northern Illinois Before Hosting MAC Champion Ball State

Rockets enter the weekend ranked No. 69 in the country
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will play two Mid-American Conference matches this weekend, at Northern Illinois on Friday and at home vs. Ball State on Sunday. First serve vs. the Huskies on Friday is at noon, while the action vs. the reigning MAC Champion Cardinals at gets underway Two Athletic Club at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
About the Rockets
For the third week in a row, Toledo 10-3 (1-0 MAC) is ranked among the top-75 tennis programs in the ITA Division I Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, coming in at No. 69 this week. The Midnight Blue and Gold opened Mid-American Conference play last weekend with a 7-0 sweep over Eastern Michigan. The win was the fourth-consecutive conference opener for UT and fourth sweep of the season.
Mariona Perez extended her winning streak to four matches (11-2 overall)Â following a three-set victory from the No. 4 court last Saturday, her first conference win as a Rocket. Cassie Alcala's (11-2) win at the No. 1 court against EMU marked her seventh-straight MAC win dating back to last April.
For the second-straight week, Sloane Teske and Perez earned MAC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week honors following the EMU victory.
About Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois recorded its first MAC win and first win over Bowling Green since 2017 on Sunday to improve to 10-8, 1-0 MAC. The Huskies claimed the doubles point and won all but the No. 1 singles court against the Falcons.
About Ball State
Ball State is riding a 10-match winning streak heading into this week of competition after sweeping Western Michigan last Saturday. The Cardinals are 12-2, 1-0 MAC, having last lost to James Madison on Feb. 3.
The 2022 MAC Championships finals was the last time the Rocket and Cardinals shared the court. The Cardinals took the title following a tight 4-3 decision in Muncie, Ind. on May 1. BSU will face Buffalo on Friday afternoon before traveling to the Glass City for a 2:00 p.m. match at Twos Athletic Club on Sunday.
