Rockets take a four-match winning streak on the road this Friday and Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will begin a six-match road excursion this weekend with two matches in Chicago, Ill. The Rockets will face UIC on Friday morning and DePaul on Saturday afternoon, with both matches taking place at the XC Tennis Village.
Friday and Saturday's matches will be the second time this 2022-23 season that the Toledo (5-1), UIC (1-3), and DePaul (1-4) have taken the court together. The Flames and Blue Devils participated in the Rocket Invite on Sept. 23-24.
About the Rockets
The Rockets have won four straight matches, most recently a 7-0 sweep vs. Oakland on Saturday at Twos Athletic Club.
No. 1 singles player Cassie Alcala stretched her winning streak to 12 matches, her longest unbeaten stretch since winning 15 straight matches from April 30, 2021–Feb. 26, 2022. Sloane Teske improved to nine-in-a-row with her win from the No. 2 court on Saturday, a dual streak that began in last April. Teske's longest run was 13 matches between May 5, 2021- March 8, 2022.
Three other Rockets, Mariona Perez, Sanjana Tallamraju, and Shalini Tallamraju, have also began to rack up the consecutive wins: Perez (No. 4) and Shalini Tallamraju (No. 3) with four, and Sanjana Tallamraju (No. 5) with three.
About UIC
UIC has one win under its belt and most recently lost back-to-back matches vs. Notre Dame and Western Michigan. The Flames started strong against the Fighting Irish, winning the doubles point but could only secure one singles win from Agnes Gustafsson on the No. 1 court. UIC also won the doubles point before WMU before ultimately falling to the Broncos.
Back in October, Toledo won two doubles matches and all five singles matchups against the Flames.
About DePaul
DePaul opened this season with a 4-2 win over Lamar, but has since lost its last four matches. Its most recent matches were both 4-0 losses to Purdue and Tulsa last weekend.
At the Rocket Invite, Toledo won two doubles matches and four of five singles matches against the Blue Devils.
