Toledo Drops Akron, 3-0, for Third-Straight Conference Win

The Rockets earn fifth shutout of the season on Senior Day, move into fifth place tie in MAC standings

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team scored once in the first half and added two more goals in the second half to push past Akron 3-0, at Paul Hotmer Field on Sunday afternoon.

The win was the fifth shutout for the Rockets this season and their third consecutive blanking. Following a big 1-0 victory at Ohio on Thursday, the Rockets are now 6-5-2, 3-2-1 in MAC play and move into a tie for fifth place in the conference with Northern Illinois. The top six teams qualify for the Mid-American Conference Tournament at the end of this month.

"It was a great week for the girls," head coach Mark Batman said. "We are very proud of them and their efforts this week. We are on to next week as each week provides different challenges."

Sophomore Brooklyn Whitehead broke the 0-0 tie in the 23rd minute off a pass from senior Grace Turski to give Toledo a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. UT extended its lead to three when juniors Mia Leonetti and Olivia Dault scored back-to-back goals just four minutes apart. Leonetti doubled the lead in the 54th minute, and Dault added an insurance goal in the 58th minute from a pass by teammate Turski. Redshirt freshman Brielle Young made the start in net for the Rockets, sharing the shutout with senior Karson Hill, who took over in the 86th minute and put a stop to Akron's final shot taken by Kiana Harsh to secure the win.

Young made six saves this afternoon to secure her third-straight shutout and fifth (four solo and one combined) of the season. In the last three games, she has made 16 saves.
