Rockets' coach guided Tigers' golf programs to national prominence from 2007-17
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo men's golf coach Jeff Roope will be inducted into Wittenberg University's Athletics Hall of Honor on Thursday, Oct. 5.
"I am eternally grateful to Wittenberg University for allowing me to be a small part of their rich athletic tradition," Roope said. "I was humbled then to have the chance to serve the Tigers and their student-athletes, and I am humbled now to be recognized for all they accomplished during my tenure. I am so proud of the young people who trusted in me, who trusted in our program, and who trusted in Wittenberg University and thank them from the bottom of my heart."
In 10 years as head coach at Wittenberg (2007-17), Roope brought Wittenberg men's golf back to national title contention and established the women's program as one of the best in the nation as well. The men's team broke through in Roope's third season, winning the first of eight straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) titles under his direction. He was named NCAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year seven times, in addition to Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament each year from 2010-17, culminating in a national title in 2017, the first in program history.
Wittenberg's women won three straight NCAC titles from 2015-17 under Roope's guidance and followed those performances with perhaps the greatest three-year run of national finishes in school history, taking runner-up honors in 2015 and 2017 and finishing third in 2016. Roope was named NCAC Coach of the Year four times and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year four times as well.
Between the men's and women's programs, Roope helped Wittenberg secure 70 team championships, 67 all-conference accolades, 48 individual medalist honors, 31 Academic All-Scholar Awards, 22 All-Americans, 11 North Coast Athletic Conference championships, 10 league medalist recipients, seven NCAC Player of the Year honorees and two Academic All-Americans.
