TOLEDO, Ohio – Graduate student Palmer Yenrick was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the league office on Wednesday.
Yenrick is an Oregon, Ohio native who graduated with a 3.767 grade-point average in finance last spring and is pursuing an MBA in Operations & Supply Chain Management. Yenrick is a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree and was named to the CSC Academic All-District squad last season.
Toledo swept the MAC's Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards this week, with women's volleyball player Taylor Alt earning the award as well.
Yenrick shot a school-record 13-under par 203 to tie for first place last week at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. Yenrick's performance helped lead the Rockets to a second-place finish, just one stroke behind champion South Florida.
Yenrick carded a pair of career-low seven-under 65s in the first two rounds which was one shot away from a school record. His play also helped the Rockets shoot a school-record 54-hole total of 37-under par 827.
Toledo will wrap up its fall season next week when it travels to Carmel, Calif. for the Cal Poly Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 30-31.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. Each week schools are asked to nominate one female and one male among the sports that are in season at the time. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
