Sprinters Make Big Strides in First Indoor Meet

Rockets set five personal-best times at Michigan's Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Toledo women's track & field team opened its 2023 indoor season at Michigan's Wolverine Invitational on Saturday with the sprinters getting the year off to a good start. Freshmen Khamani Jones and Laryah Worthy each took runner-up in their respective events to lead the Rockets. Jones ran a 26.07 in the 200m while Worthy finished the 400m in 103.86

Sophomore Amara Okpalaoka matched her career-best of 11.29m in the triple jump and finished fourth, while sophomore Sydney Caddell finished sixth (9.81m) in her first attempt at the event. Okpalaoka and Caddell took sixth and fourth, respectively, in the long jump and were followed by senior Alexia Moehling who took eighth place with a personal best mark of 4.86m. Moehling also set a new PR time of 8.99 in the 60H and finished fifth.

Freshman Clare Logan finished sixth in her first collegiate competition in the high jump, with a mark 1.63m mark.

Freshmen Laryah Worthy and Paris Gosha also had successful performances in their collegiate debuts. Gosha took third in the 60m (7.83) and finished the day with a runner-up finish of 26.10 in the 200m. Worthy ran a 1:03.86 in the 400m to finish second right.

Sophomore Jimesha Ragland ran a career-best time of 7.97 in the 60m and finished fifth. Behind Ragland was junior Meyah Haywood, who matched her PR time of 8.01.

Junior Sarah-Rose Sullivan beat her PR time by nearly three seconds to take third in the mile run with a time of 5:07.39. Junior Audrey Witham also set a PR in the mile with a time of 5:21.82 to finish sixth.

The Rockets will be back in Ann Arbor next Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Michigan Invitational.
