Rockets Have Successful Day at Michigan Invitational

Toledo sets 10 personal bests in Ann Arbor on Saturday
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Toledo women's track & field team traveled to Ann Arbor for the second time in as many weeks to compete in the Michigan Invitational on Saturday, setting 10 personal bests against strong competition on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Amara Okpalaoka earned the victory in the triple jump, while sophomore Sydney Caddell and junior Lou Trois finished as runners-up in the triple jump and mile, respectively.

Freshman Clare Logan and Okpalaoka placed fourth and fifth in the long jump with marks of 5.55m and 5.44m, respectively. Logan also competed in the high jump, posting a 1.58m mark.

Okpalaoka and Caddell were the lone competitors in the triple jump, both earning personal-best marks. Okpalaoka (11.78m) broke her previous PR, set at last weekend's Wolverine Invitational, by 0.49m to win the event. Caddell posted a mark of 9.98m, also surpassing her previous best from last weekend.

Sophomore Jimesha Ragland set a personal-best time of 7.87 to place fifth in the 60m finals while junior Meyah Haywood recorded a new PR time of 7.91 in the prelims.

Senior Ava Moran led the way for the Rockets in the 200m, placing seventh with a time of 25.99. Close behind was freshman Khamani Jones, who ran a personal-best 26.07 for a ninth-place finish.

Junior Shianne Johnson posted a 400m time of 1:01.02 to come within one second of her PR. In the 600m, fellow junior Audrey Witham recorded a best time of 1:39.59 to finish ninth.

The Rockets had a strong showing in the 800m, placing three runners in the top 10. Trois posted a time of 2:12.55 to place fourth, while Sarah-Rose Sullivan won her heat with a time of 2:14.74, finishing seventh overall. Sophomore Alex Bauer placed ninth with a time of 2:15.45 in her first meet as a Rocket.

Trois took runner-up in the mile with a time of 4:46.91, the fastest by a Rocket this season. Junior Madeline Vining posted a personal-best time of 4:47.58 to finish fifth, while Bauer (4:49.09) crossed the finish line sixth. Freshman Lianna Surtz's time of 4:53.63 was good for seventh place finish in her first collegiate meet.

Senior Claire Steigerwald placed fifth in the 3000m with a time of 10:28.95.

Senior Alexia Moehling and sophomore Mayson Bates posted personal-best times of 8.76 and 8.90, respectively, in the 60H prelims. Moehling finished fourth in the finals while Bates followed in seventh.

Toledo's 4x400m relay team of sophomore Megan Massmann, junior Audrey Witham, junior Sarah-Rose Sullivan, and Moran recorded a time of 4:10.50 to cap off the meet for the Rockets.

The Rockets will make a short trip south for the Findlay Alumni Classic next Friday- Saturday, Jan. 21-22.
