Madeline Vining Breaks School Record at John Thomas Terrier Classic

Vining finished 11th in the 3000m and beats school record by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 9:16.87
BOSTON, Mass. – The distance runners from the Toledo women's track & field team had outstanding performances at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday. The Rockets were highlighted by junior Madeline Vining, who set the school record in the 3000m with a time of 9:16.87. Eleven other distance runners recorded personal-best times at Boston University's two-day event.
"Madeline's school record is a reflection of the hard work, belief, trust, and a whole lot of heart," head coach Andrea Grove-McDonough said. "I was so proud of her effort today and it was a great day all around. We still have a few pieces to put in place, but I'm excited about the momentum we are building."
Vining crossed the finish line at 9:16.87, surpassing Toledo Hall of Famer Brianna Shook who previously set the record at 9:23.90 in 2003. She was followed by sophomore Joy Chirchir who crossed the line with a PR time of 9:27.79, which ranks fourth in Toledo records. Sophomore Olivia Gang was next in line for the Rockets, finishing with a PR time of 9:35.47, and now has the 10th-best time in program records. Next was Morgan Hicks also with a personal best time, 9:41.47. Juniors Julia Dames and Emily Vining concluded the Midnight Blue and Gold group. Dames crossed with a PR time of 9:52.96, and Emily Vining had a time of 10:02.51 to round out the group.
Junior Lou Trois led the Rockets in the mile, finishing 10th with a PR time four seconds faster than her previous record. Trois crossed the finish line with a time of 4:40.70, the fastest by a Rocket this season and is third on Toledo's all-time indoor top-10 list. Freshman Lianna Surtz sped past her previous record time in the mile, finishing 21st with a time of 4:47.80. Sophomore Alex Bauer finished 25th, followed by freshman Karina James with a PR 4:50.86 in 36-place. Freshman Jayson Cirincione wrapped up the Rockets with a 30-place finish and a PR 4:53.20 time.
Junior Sarah-Rose Sullivan and Krystal Clark both finished 17th with personal-best times in their respective events. Sullivan in the 800m, demolishing her indoor personal-record by four seconds with a time of 2:12.61, and Clark for the first time in the 1000m race, with a time of 2:54.07. Clark's time ranks third on Toledo's all-time indoor top-10 list.
Toledo will head to Notre Dame next Saturday, Feb. 4, for the wo-day Meyo Invitational.
