Rocket distance runners will run at Boston University; sprinters will compete at Tiffin University
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track & field team will split its time this Saturday, Jan. 28 between Boston, Mass. and Tiffin, Ohio. Some of the distance crew will head to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic while another group of distance runners and the sprinters will head down to Tiffin University for the Tiffin Invitational & Combined Events.
At last week's Findlay Alumni Classic, the Rockets finished second with a team score of 95 points. Senior Alexia Moehling won her first individual event, with a 8.81 time in the 60m hurdles. Toledo also set four personal-bests after two days of competition, including freshman Clare Logan, who reached a 5.58m mark in the long jump, the longest by a Rocket this season. Sophomore Sydney Caddell leaped to 10.41m in the triple jump, sophomore Mayson Bates ran 8.82 in the 60H, and freshman Laryah Worthy ran a 1:01.87 in the 400m. Bates' time in the 60m hurdles ranks ninth on the Toledo all-time indoor Top-10 list.
The distance runners had a successful showing at the Michigan Invitational two weeks ago. Toledo was highlighted by junior Lou Trois, who finished runner-up in the mile with a time of 4:46.91, the fastest by a Rocket this season. Her mile time is the fastest in the MAC, fifth in the region, and sixth on the Toledo all-time indoor top-10 list. Her efforts at Michigan, including a fourth-place finish in the 800m, earned her a MAC Track Athlete of the Week recognition on Jan. 18.
The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its first NCAA Division I team rankings of the season on Monday, and Toledo sits at No. 21 in the Great Lakes Region with 23.44 points.
