TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team opened its first day of competition at the Rocket Invitational on Friday afternoon, winning three of four matches against Case Western University.
Marko Galic and
Krzysztof Wetoszka each won their singles matches in two set sweeps, while the doubles team of
Luis Kleinschnitz and
Matias Olivero forced a three-set decision to win their doubles match.
"It was a good start to our year," head coach
Al Wermer said, "It was awesome to see
Max Skaer back out on the court after missing last spring with an injury, and also welcoming
Matias Olivero into collegiate tennis.
Marko Galic and
Krzysztof Wetoszka played some dominant singles matches."
On the top court,
Marko Galic (TOL) defeated Casey Hishinuma (CWU) 6-2, 6-1. On the second singles court,
Krzysztof Wetoszka (TOL) also completed a two-set sweep over Michael Sutanto (CWU) 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition,
Luis Kleinschnitz and
Matias Olivero (TOL) won the first set, 6-4, over James Hopper/ Vishwa Aduru (CWU). Kleinschnitz/Olivero fell behind in the second set, 2-6, then came back to win the third set, 10-5, for the match victory.
CWU's doubles team of Sahil Dayla/Chris Provenzano (CWU) got their team's only win of the matchup, a 6-0, 6-2 decision over
Vlad Meluta/
Max Skaer (TOL).
Competition continues Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday's competition will be split between the UT Varsity Tennis Courts and Shadow Valley Tennis Club. The schedule can be found below.
