Back-to-back BIG EAST Champion joins Rockets staff for 2026-27 season
TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo men's tennis head coach Al Wermer announced the hiring of Danilo Raicevic as an assistant coach today.
"Joining the UT program means I can continue doing what I love - playing and coaching tennis, while also building something for my future beyond the court," said Raicevic. "I've had great experiences competing at the highest levels, both in the US and internationally, and I know I still have more to give as a player. But UT offers me the chance to grow in both directions at the same time. I can keep pushing myself in tennis while studying something that will allow me to stay in the sport through coaching, managing, or working in the tennis world. It's the perfect place to pursue both passions without having to choose between them."
Raicevic competed at St. John's for the last two seasons, winning back-to-back BIG EAST Conference championships in 2025 and 2026. He tallied an overall singles record of 15-5 and a doubles record of 16-7 with the Red Storm.
"Danilo was a leader on back-to-back BIG EAST Champion teams and he comes highly recommended," said Wermer. "I know he'll do a great job coaching and mentoring our guys in advancing our championship program forward."
Prior to his collegiate career, Raicevic competed for Montenegro in the Davis Cup U12, U14 and U16. He was also ranked first in Montenegro throughout his U10, U12, U14 and U16 playing career as well as ranked sixth overall in Europe in U14.
The Podgorica, Montenegro native earned his bachelor's degree in hospitality management from St. John's in the spring of 2026.
