TOLEDO, Ohio - Head Men's Golf Coach
Jeff Roope announced that Michael Terblanche (Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) has transferred to the University of Toledo as a graduate transfer from the University of Missouri. Terblanche spent three semesters at Missouri after transferring from McNeese State when its program was discontinued in the spring of 2021.
Â
At Missouri, Terblanche played in eight total events where he competed both in the lineup and as an individual for the Tigers. Terblanche was part of the winning lineup for Missouri at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate in the Fall of 2021 and personally recorded his highest finishes of 19
th place in back-to-back events (Florida Gator Invitational & MU Tiger Invitational) during the Spring of 2022. He posted a  75.0 scoring average which included three rounds and one event under par.
Â
Prior to Missouri, Terblanche was a member of the McNeese State golf program. Before the 2019-20 season was cut short, Terblanche put together a strong campaign, posting a 72.6 scoring average. One of those included carding a career-low 65 in the second round at the Nicholls La Tour Intercollegiate on Feb. 17, 2020. His solid play earned him Second-Team All-Louisiana Honors as voted on by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Â
Terblanche competed as a freshman at Hofstra where he competed in seven events and finished with his team's third-best scoring average (78.2). His top round was a season-low 74 at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate, where he tied for a season-best 15
th place.

Quoting Coach Roope:
"Michael is a solid player and is just starting to realize his potential on the golf course as an athlete. At 6'5" and 230 lbs., Michael comes from a really athletic family and background, so the potential to reach greater heights is within reach for him. The challenges he's had to face moving from school to school, being impacted first by the COVID shutdown, then the hurricanes that ravaged Lake Charles (McNeese State), and then having McNeese decide to discontinue men's golf, have not afforded him a typical growth structure. Missouri provided that structure the last season-and-a-half, and we are now hoping to offer that next platform for Michael to improve while he provides us with the experience and skill to help the Rockets improve."
