5/5/2022 2:03:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Battle of I-75 resumes on the baseball diamond this weekend as Toledo visits Bowling Green for a four-game series.

The Rockets (26-17, 17-11 MAC) are one of the hottest teams in the country, having won a record-tying 11 straight games. Their 11-game winning streak is tied for the longest in school history with the 2011 team that also won 11 straight games.

Friday's series opener has been postponed due to rain. The series will now be structured as two doubleheaders, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, with both beginning at 1:05 p.m. The games on Saturday and the first game on Sunday will be televised locally on BCSN and streamed live on ESPN3.

Following this weekend's series, Toledo and Bowling Green will play at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for Toledo's game at Fifth Third Field are on sale now and can be purchased through the Toledo Mud Hens ticket office online by visiting this link. General admission tickets will be $8.00, with discounted tickets available for high school and college students.

Last Time Out
The Rockets hosted Miami for a midweek contest on Wednesday and defeated the RedHawks, 6-4.

Toledo saw excellent performances on the mound and at the plate on Wednesday. Sophomore Connor Brandon got the start on the bump and was outstanding, striking out 10 in six innings. He struck out an astounding eight of nine batters at one point between the end of the third inning and the beginning of the sixth. Juniors Cal McAninch and Kyle Jones finished things off out of the bullpen, with McAninch tossing two shutout frames and Jones throwing a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Redshirt freshman Trey Wright led the way at the plate, driving in the go-ahead run in the sixth and an insurance run in the eighth to highlight a 3-for-3 day. Freshmen Garret Pike and Brian Fry as well as junior Mason Sykes all drove in runs to help the cause.

Rocket Notes
  • Toledo's 11-game winning streak is the third-longest active streak in the country, behind Columbia (19 games) and Maine (13 games).
  • The Rockets have scored at least five runs in all 11 games during their winning streak and are outscoring opponents 89-47.
  • Kyle Jones has turned himself into one of the premier starting pitchers in the Mid-American Conference, but he was utilized in a new role on Wednesday. Jones entered the game in the top of the ninth and earned his first save of the year.
  • Jones is approaching the single-season strikeout record; he has 87 punchouts this year, 16 away from breaking the record of 102 set by Jeremy Griffiths in 1999.
  • Toledo is 14-5 at home this year, the most home victories in a season since 2007 when the team went 16-9 at home.
