OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore Krystal Clark took 17th place in the 800m to lead the Rockets in the final day of competition at the Joe Walker Invitational at the University of Mississippi on Saturday.
Clark finished the race with a personal-best time of 2:08.91. Sophomore Lou Trois was right behind her teammate in 19th place with a time of 2:09.14, also a personal best.
The final positions in the 1500m for four Rockets who competed in the 1500m on Friday were set after two more heats were run on Saturday. Trois maintained her overall standing in 14th place after clocking a time of 4:25.45 on Friday.
Other highlights on Friday included senior Stephanie Sherman, who finished fourth in the 5000m with a personal-record time of 16:15.79. Junior Faith Linga came in seventh in the 5000 after finishing with a time of 16:40.54.
Sophomore Emily Vining placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday and set a personal-record time of 10:15.81.
Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough was pleased with her team's performances over the weekend despite challenging weather conditions. For the weekend, Toledo set seven personal-best times.
"It was a really solid weekend overall, but the weather didn't do us any favors, especially on Friday," said Grove-McDonough. "It was unusually cold with strong winds for the South, which made racing conditions challenging. However, our athletes still made the most of it and showed great competitiveness and grit.
"The highlight Friday was Emily Vining's 3000m steeplechase, where she ran a two-second personal-best time that we believe will ultimately be a first-round NCAA qualifying time. Saturday was a better day for racing, which was reflected in the times and a number of personal bests, including Krystal Clark, Lou Trois, Sarah-Rose Sullivan and Madeline Vining in the 800."
The Rockets will next compete at the Tiffin Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 15-16.
