Rockets Tune Up for MACs With Meets in Florida, Kalamazoo

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Promise Cross completed a busy weekend at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday, competing in the high jump, 100m hurdles and 4x100 relay. The Rockets sent a group of athletes to Jacksonville and another squad to Kalamazoo to compete in the WMU Jack Shaw Invitational.
The highlight for Cross on Saturday was clearing a season-best 1.68m on her third try in the high jump for a sixth-place finish. On Friday night she had a pair of top-15 finishes, coming in 15th in the 400m hurdles (1:03.31) and 13th in the long jump (5.59m).
The 4x100 team of Shiane Johnson, Ava Moran, Mayson Bates and Cross came in sixth place at UNF with a time of 48.15. Senior Rayna Horner made a good showing in the 400m, clocking a season-best time of 58.94.
At Kalamazoo, a handful of Rockets finished in the top five in a field made up of MAC and other regional competitors. Senior Madeline Barnes (pole vault) and sophomore Amanda Tremains (3000m steeplechase) took second place in their respective events. Sophomores Alexia Moehling (100m hurdles), Sarah-Rose Sullivan (800m) and Meyah Haywood (100m) all grabbed fourth-place finishes.
The Rockets will have next weekend off as they prepare for the MAC Outdoor Championships in Kalamazoo on May 12-14.
