TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will head to the 2022 Mid-American Conference Tournament this weekend at the Sorensen Courts/ West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich. The four-team tournament will begin two semifinal matches on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and the finals will take place on Sunday, April 24 at 1:00 pm.
This year's tournament is hosted by 2021 regular-season champions Western Michigan, who reclaimed its regular-season title with a 13-8 overall and 9-1 MAC record. The Broncos enter the weekend as the No. 1 seed, followed the the No. 2-seeded Rockets, No. 3 Ball State, and No. 4 Northern Illinois.

"These guys have actually faced a lot of adversities in the past year, and many were far beyond the tennis court," said head coach
Al Wermer who earned his 298th career victory at Sunday's match. "Those things, like it or not, helped lead to significant increases in resilience and maturity. And regardless of whether we win this tournament or not, these guys will always have a really special bond."
Last Time Out
Toledo finished the regular season with a 14-8 overall record and a 7-3 MAC record after it split its final two matches of the regular season, falling 4-3 to Buffalo on April 15 before sweeping Binghamton on April 17. The only three conference losses for UT this season were twice to Western Michigan (March 13, April 10) and once against Buffalo (April 15).
Toledo at the MAC Championships
- Sophomore Pawit Sornlaksup is 20-2 overall this season, with an undefeated 10-0 mark against conference opponents, and is riding a 20-match win streak from the No. 1 court.
- Junior Marko Galic enters the tournament on an eight-match win streak and is 16-6 overall with a 9-1 conference mark. His only conference loss was to WMU's Brogan Pierce (March 13) in a three-set match.
- As Toledo's No. 1 doubles team, Sornlaksup and Galic have won their last 12 contests, are 15-1 overall and 8-0 vs. MAC doubles teams from the No. 1 court.
- Toledo has seven conference titles to its name. The Rockets won its first title in 1966 and every year until 1971, and one more time in 1973.
- UT's last appearance in the MAC Tournament was in 2019 when they lost to Ball State 4-0 in the semifinals.
