Cross, Sponaugle Lead the Pack on Day Two at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – Sophomore Promise Cross and senior Hannah Sponaugle each recorded a first-place finish in their respective events in Day Two of the Tiffin Invitational. Cross took first in the heptathlon and 800m, while Sponaugle finished atop the 10,000m.

Cross collected 4,826 total points in the heptathlon for a first-place finish and fourth best score in program history. She came into today's final three heptathlon events with 3,078 points. Cross took sixth in the long jump (5.13m), seventh in the javelin throw (28.30m) and wrapped the event with a first-place finish in the 800m at 2:28.71.

Senior Hannah Sponaugle crossed the tape first in the 10,000m run with a time of 37:08.84.

Also finishing in the top-10 of their respective events were freshman Morgan Hicks who finished second in the 1500m at a personal-best time of 4:37.63. freshman Amanda Tremains took third with a time of 11:45.24 in the 3000m Steeplechase. Sophomore Alexia Moehling (14.59) and freshman Mayson Bates (14.85) had a 4-5 finish in the 100 Hurdles. Seniors Rayna Horner, (59.95) and Ava Moran (1:00.18) finished fifth and sixth in the 400m. Morhling also took seventh in the 400 hurdles with a personal-record 1:06.78. Junior Paige Embaugh (2:23.46) and sophomore Audrey Witham (2:23.75) took a 9-10 finish the 800m. Rounding out the top-10 finishes in running events was senior Maya Hannagan who ran 18:13.15 in the 5000m to finish 10th overall.

Senior Madeline Barns was the only Rocket to compete in a field event. Barns finished eighth after reaching 3.45 meters in the pole vault.

Members of the Toledo men's cross country team also competed in distance vents.

In the 1500m, freshman Eric Hollar placed 19th with a time of 4:10.64. in the 5000m, sophomores Matthew Chesum finished second after clocking 14:39.59, and Ben Towler finished in seventh with a time of 14:53.45. Sophomore Jonathan Hrivnak competed in the 10000m and recorded a time of 31:20.90, finishing third.

The Tiffin Invitational will conclude tomorrow, and the Rockets will compete in the javelin and 4x100 Relay set to begin at 10:20 a.m.
