TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will close out its regular season with two matches in New York vs. Buffalo on April 15 and Binghamton on April 17.
Friday's match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the UB Tennis Courts, and Sunday's match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Lane Tennis Center.
The two matches are the second and final time Toledo (13-7, 6-2 MAC), Buffalo (3-13, 2-6 MAC) and Binghamton (1-19, 0-8 MAC) will match up before the conference tournament next weekend. Toledo defeated UB 6-1 on March 25, and swept Binghamton 7-0 on March 27. The MAC Men's Tennis Championships will be held in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Saturday-Sunday April 23-24.
"This weekend gives us a chance to fine-tune what we've been working on all season," said head coach
Al Wermer, who earned his 297th career victory at last Friday's match. "We'll face a lot of challenges, so let's hope we do okay."
Last Time Out
Toledo split its last two home matches of the regular season. UT defeated Northern Illinois for the second time this season, 6-1, on Friday, and were defeated by Western Michigan, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore
Pawit Sornlaksup extended his winning streak to 18 matches on the No. 1 singles court to improve to 18-2 this season with an undefeated record in conference play. Sornlaksup and doubles partner junior
Marko Galic improved to 13-2 this season and have a 10-match win streak on the No. 1 court. In addition, Galic has also won his last six singles matches for a 14-6 overall record with a 7-1 mark against conference opponents.
Sornlaksup's and Galic's efforts combined to earn them MAC Singles & Doubles Team of the Week honors on Wednesday.
About Buffalo
Buffalo snapped a six-match losing streak after defeating Binghamton 5-2 for the second time this season last Saturday. UB's only other win this season was on Feb. 19 in a 7-0 sweep over St. Bonaventure University. The only Bulls to get a win over Toledo were doubles partners Greg Hastings and Finn Macnamara (No. 3) and Macnamara on the No. 4 singles court.
About Binghamton
Binghamton has lost its last 13 matches since its only win, 4-3, over Fairleigh Dickinson University on Feb. 5. BU will host Ball State on Friday before taking on Toledo in its regular-season finale on Sunday.
