TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo men's tennis will open Mid-American Conference play with two road matches this weekend vs. Northern Illinois on Friday and Western Michigan on Sunday.
The Rockets and Huskies will take the court at 2:00 p.m. (CT) in the Chick Evans Field House. The Rockets and the Broncos will play at 2:00 p.m. at the Sorensen Courts/ West Hills Athletic Club.
"We've obviously had a pretty strong and competitive non-conference season," head coach
Al Wermer said. "Ours was a great testing ground. But now all teams are 0-0, and I'm sure each team wants to start their MAC Schedule off with a pair of wins"
Last Time Out
Toledo (7-5) closed out its non-conference schedule on Thursday, March 2, falling to Cleveland State (4-3) followed by a sweep over Holy Cross College (7-0). Sophomore
Pawit Sornlaksup went 2-0 in singles competition to increase his winning streak to 10 matches on the No. 1 court. Sornlaksup and junior
Marko Galic went 2-0 on the No.1 doubles court and are on a four-match win streak.
About Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois (6-3) has lost its last three matches, most recently a 7-0 setback to Drake on March 4. Junior Oliver Valentinsson paces the Huskies on the singles courts with a 7-0 record, while the doubles team of Valentinsson and Kristopher Ortega have a leading 4-1 record.
About Western Michigan
Western Michigan (4-6) had a close 4-3 loss to No. 63 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos claimed the doubles point from wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts, but could not clinch the match in singles competition. The Broncos will host Ball State on Friday before Toledo on Sunday.
