TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo men's tennis opened its three-match homestand Wednesday morning with a 4-3 win over Northwestern Ohio at Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Maumee.
The Rockets secured the doubles point with big wins on the No. 2 court from
Cole Shoults and
Krzysztof Wetoszka and the No. 3 court from
Adam Kovac and
Luka Jankovic. Toledo's No. 1 court featuring
Pawit Sornlaksup and
Marko Galic were down 4-3 when the game was ruled unfinished.
Sornlaksup and Kovac won the No. 1 and No. 2 courts respectively in two sets, while the visiting Racers put up a bigger fight to stay in the match. UNOH won two close three-set matches on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts, and then tied the match 3-3 with a victory on the No. 5. Jankovic swept Nile Messin (6-0, 7-5) on the No. 6 court to clinch the final point for the Rockets.
"This is a very solid NAIA team," head coach
Al Wermer said of his opponents. Â "Today they helped us because they challenged us and put our guys in tough situations."
Toledo (4-4) will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 25 when it welcomes IUPUI to Shadow Valley Tennis Club. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
