Rockets Heading to UAB for Blazer Classic

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo softball team will head to Birmingham, Ala. this weekend to play five games in the Blazer Classic on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 18-20. The Rockets will join the host Blazers, Murray State, and North Dakota in the four-team tournament.

LAST WEEK
Murray State (2-3) finished the DePaul Dome Tournament with a five-inning 9-0 win over Western Illinois on Sunday in Chicago, Ill. Six players for the Racers collected multiple hits in the closer of the tournament, including freshman catcher Taylor Jackson. Redshirt-senior outfielder Logan Braundmeier leads the Racers with a .500 average, seven hits, four runs scored, one home run and a .857 slugging percentage. Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Jenna Verber has a 1.95 ERA through 14 innings pitched, including 10 strikeouts.

University of Alabama Birmingham (1-5) hosted Troy Wednesday evening in its 2022 home opener. The Blazers fell 6-3 in eight innings, their third straight game so far this season. Sophomore Lilly Crow leads the Blazers' offense with a .421 average, five runs scored, one home run and eight hits with a .632 slugging percentage. Sarah Cespedes has a 3.86 ERA with 10 strikeouts through 16.1 innings pitched.
ABOUT NORTH DAKOTA
North Dakota (2-3) dropped its final game of the Furman Classic 5-3 in a two-run fifth-inning comeback by Tarleton State on Sunday, Feb. 13. Madi Moore leads the Fighting Hawks with seven hits along with a .500 average and slugging percentage. In the pitcher's circle, senior Jannay Jones has a 2.10 ERA with 12 strikeouts through 13.1 innings.
ON DECK
The Rockets will head back to Alabama for the Auburn Tournament on Friday-Sunday, March 4-6. Toledo will play five games at Jane B. Moore Field vs. Chattanooga, North Carolina A&T, and host Auburn.

LAST WEEK
- Toledo opened the 2022 season with back-to-back wins over Charleston Southern on the first day of the CSU Tournament on Friday, and finished the weekend 2-3 overall.
- Senior Makenna Durieux picked up the victory in game two and compiled a 4.45 ERA over 11.0 IP over the weekend.
- Senior Dayna Denner was the Rockets' leading source of power with a team-best 1.333 slugging percentage, three home runs, 10 hits, a .737 on-base percentage and a .667 batting average. Her efforts earned her Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Honors (Feb. 15) and a mention as a Selected Top Performance in the Slugger/ Wilson's Division I weekly honors.
- Denner's three home runs last weekend moved her up the Toledo all-time career home run list with 21. She is one home run away from becoming the all-time leader, currently held by Leslie Strong (2005-08) with 22. Also, Denner's four walks moved her to the eighth-place position in Toledo's all-time career walks list with 47. She is currently tied with Brooke Gates (2009-12).
- Sophomore Jenna Kroll and senior Aubrey Reed both recorded home runs over the weekend.
- Junior Leah Munson produced a team-high four doubles and scored five runs.
- Junior McKenna Schmidt had a 3.94 ERA in 5.1 innings.
