First-Place Rockets to Visit DeKalb on Saturday to Battle NIU

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (19-5, 11-2 MAC) travels to DeKalb, Ill. this weekend to meet Northern Illinois (6-15, 3-8 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 12 in the NIU Convocation Center. Tipoff time is set for 3:30 p.m. CT (4:30 p.m. ET) with streaming on ESPN3.

        The Rockets are tied with Ohio (20-4, 11-2) for first place in the Mid-American Conference and hold the tiebreaker vs. the Bobcats by virtue of sweeping the season series between the two schools
.
        Toledo registered a 77-62 victory over Ohio on Tuesday night, its second double-digit win of the season over the Bobcats. Sophomore Ryan Rollins nearly registered a triple-double to lead the Rockets, finishing with 15 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and eight assists. Junior Setric Millner Jr. paced Toledo offensively with 18 points, while junior JT Shumate tallied 17 points and a career-high seven blocked shots. Shumate's seven rejections were the second most in a conference game in program history and tied for fourth most ever.

        Toledo shot 56.4 percent from the field dominated the boards by a 47-26 margin. The Rockets' defense also limited Ohio to a 32.8 shooting mark.

        Rollins ranks 20th nationally with 19.8 ppg and is tied for the team lead with 6.2 rpg and 3.7 apg. Shumate is second on the team with 15.3 ppg and grabbing 6.2 rpg. Also scoring in double digits are Setric Millner Jr. (14.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and junior RayJ Dennis (11.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.7 apg).

        Millner and Dennis led Toledo with 16 points each in its first meeting vs. NIU this season. Sophomore guard Keshaun Williams leads the Huskies offensively with 16.1 ppg but did not play vs. the Rockets in January. Senior guard Trendon Hankerson is also scoring in double digits with 11.1 ppg.

SERIES
   Toledo leads 50-31. The Rockets posted a 94-63 home victory over NIU on Jan. 8 and have won three of their last four games in DeKalb. Toledo's game at NIU last year was canceled due to COVID.

•  Toledo is the only school in the nation with five players averaging 5.0 rpg or more.
•  The Rockets rank third nationally with 30.0 defensive rpg and 16th with 40.4 rpg.
•  Ryan Rollins (6.2), JT Shumate (6.2), Setric Millner Jr. (6.0) and RayJ Dennis (5.8) and are each ranked in the Top 15 in MAC rebounding. Ra'Heim Moss is at 5.2 rpg.
•  Rollins and Dennis rank fourth and ninth in the MAC with 5.5 and 4.9 defensive rpg, respectively.
  
ROCKETS IN NCAA RANKINGS
•  Toledo ranks third nationally with 30.0 def. rpg, 14th with a 77.8 FT% and 16th with 80.5 ppg & 40.4 rpg. Toledo is also 24th in FG% (48.0) and 26th in scoring margin (+11.6).
•  Ryan Rollins ranks 20th with 19.8 ppg, and JT Shumate is 26th with a 56.5 FG%.
 
ROCKETS IN MAC RANKINGS
•  Toledo leads the MAC in FG% (48.0), FG% defense (39.9), scoring margin (+11.6), def. rebounds/game (29.6) and A/TO ratio (1.36).
•  Toledo ranks second in the league with 80.5 ppg, a 77.8 FT percentage and 14.9 apg.
•  The Rockets lead the MAC in league play in SIX categories: scoring offense (82.6), FG% (49.5), FG% defense (39.2), scoring margin (+13.4), assist/turnover ratio (1.48), and defensive rpg (30.0).
•  Four Rockets rank among the MAC leaders in FG%. JT Shumate is 3rd (56.5), Ra'Heim Moss is 7th (51.4), RayJ Dennis is 10th (50.0) and Ryan Rollins is 11th (48.6).

•  Toledo has scored 82 or more points in 10 of 13 MAC games.

•  Ryan Rollins leads the MAC with 14 20-point outings and has scored in double digits in 48 of 54 career games. Rollins was held under 14 points vs. a Division I opponent for the only time this season when he scored five points at Richmond (Dec. 11).
•  Rollins tallied 15 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and eight assists vs. Ohio (Feb. 8), the third time this season he nearly registered a triple-double.
•  Setric Millner Jr. scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting vs. Charlotte (Nov. 22) and 25 points with four three-pointers at Richmond (Dec. 11).
•  Millner buried a career-high five three-pointers at Ball State (Feb. 4) and has improved his three-point and free-throw shooting from last season. He has a 34.8 3FG% (32/92) and an 81.3 FT% (61/75) compared to 27.3 (21/77) and 66.7 (70/105) marks last year.
•  JT Shumate ranks in the MAC's Top 15 in seven categories.  He is first with a 48.0 three-point FG%, third with a 56.5 FG% and 1.3 bpg, fourth with an 84.1 FT%, ninth with 2.2 offensive rpg, 10th with 15.3 ppg and tied for 12th with 6.2 rpg.
•  Shumate blocked a career-high seven shots vs. Ohio (Feb. 8) for the second most ever by a Rocket in a MAC game. He now leads the MAC in league play with 1.8 bpg.
•  RayJ Dennis scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed nine boards vs. Charlotte (Nov. 22). He tallied 20 points, seven boards and five assists vs. Marshall (Dec. 21) and is tied for seventh in the MAC with 3.7 apg and ninth with 4.9 defensive rpg.
•  Ra'Heim Moss, RayJ Dennis and Ryan Rollins lead all MAC guards and rank seventh, 10th and 11 in the MAC with 51.4, 50.0 and 48.6 FG%s, respectively.
•  Moss scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed seven boards vs. Akron (Jan. 28) and leads the MAC in league play with a 2.56 assist/turnover ratio. He also registered his first double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds at Eastern Michigan (Feb. 1).

ROAD WARRIORS
     The Rockets have posted a 37-30 (.552) win-loss mark in road games over the last three-plus seasons. Over the last seven-plus years, Toledo possesses a 65-61 (.516) win-loss mark on enemy courts.

ON THE HORIZON
     Toledo will play four of its final six games at home, beginning with Kent State (14-9, 9-4 MAC) and Central Michigan (6-15, 5-5 MAC) visiting Savage Arena next week. The Rockets will face the Golden Flashes on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:00 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network and the Chippewas on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
