Rockets Pick Up Six Singles Wins at MAC Indoors

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Toledo men's tennis team captured six wins in the opening day of singles competition at the Mid-American Conference Indoors on Saturday afternoon. The Rockets were led by junior Pawit Sornlaksup, who went 2-0 and will play in the Flight 1 Singles finals match on Sunday.
Seniors Marko Galic and Krzysztof Wetoszka as well as junior Adam Kovac advanced to consolation finals in their respective flights.
Sornlaksup picked up two wins on his way to the finals match of the Flight 1 Singles bracket. He defeated Northern Illinois' Oliver Valentinsson in two sets, followed by another two-set victory over Ball State's Nathaniel Webster.
Galic went 1-1 in the Flight 2 Singles bracket and will play in the consolation final. Galic lost his opening set to Buffalo's Cheng Tang, won the second set, but fell in the third-set tiebreaker. Galic then went on to defeat Northern Illinois' Iker Arrastia in a tight three-set match.
Also in the Flight 2 Singles bracket, Wetoszka lost a close first match to NIU's Roger Tsai. Wetoszka stayed in the bracket after defeating Ball State's Danillo Kovacevic in two sets. Wetoszka will face Galic in the consolation final match.
Kovac dropped his first match to Buffalo's Daniils Snaiders in two sets. Kovac then went on to win a huge two-set match over Binghamton's William Binnies to move into the consolation finals match.
Freshman Matias Olivero had a big opening two-set match win over NIU's Armin Koschtojan. Matias was on the losing end of a two-set decision to Western Michigan's Arjun Honnappa. Matias will play for third place in the Flight 3 Singles on Sunday.
Senior Luis Kleinschnitz and junior Vlad Meluta each lost two matches in their respective brackets. Kleinschnitz and Meluta each have one more match on deck for the reminder of the tournament.
The final day of singles competition will begin Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.
