TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team welcomed Youngstown State to Twos Athletic Club Saturday afternoon for its home-opener weekend, and ended the day with a 5-2 victory.
"Youngstown is a very good team and I was really impressed with their level of play today," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. " We were fortunate to pull out the doubles point, which I think also helped us in singles play.
Sloane Teske and
Cassie Alcala continue to do an amazing job of leading on the court. they have really been locked-in so far this season."
Toledo earned the doubles point to start the match, with wins on the No.1 and No. 3 courts. Duo
Patricia Panta and
Laura Morera were down an early three set deficit, then came back to win the point for the Rockets, 7-5.
Rockets won four of the six singles matches, including a huge three-set comeback victory on the No. 5 No. 4 court by
Shalini Tallamraju. Jessica Stanmore took the first set and Tallamraju answered back with back-to-back set victories for the win (2-6, 6-2, 6-4).
Toledo will be right back in Twos Athletic Club on Sunday, Jan. 30 as they welcome UIC. First serve between the Rockets and Flames is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
