MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore Barend Botha fired a three-under par 69 to lead Toledo in Tuesday's final round of Wisconsin's Badger Invitational. The Rockets (295-297-294) carded their best team score of the tourney in the final round to finish in 13th place at 22-over par 886.
Botha topped Toledo in the individual standings, tying for 19th place at one-over par 217 (74-74-69). He was nearly flawless in today's round, finishing with four birdies and just one bogey.
Sophomore Jamie Tofte Nielsen shot his second one-over par 73 in the event to finish tied for 47th place at seven-over par 223 (73-77-73). He opened his round with three bogeys in four holes before playing the remainder of his round at two-under.
Junior Palmer Yenrick matched Nielsen for Toledo's second-best round of the day with a one-over par 73 and tied for 75th at 234 (81-80-73). Rounding out the Rockets' lineup were seniors Lukas Clark (T-50th/72-73-79=224) and David Amm (T-68th/76-73-80=229).
"We have the talent amongst our group, but until we do it consistently we're going to experience some highs and lows," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "Getting three of five good is never going to cut it if we expect to compete. We'll get back to work at it this week and try to clean things up before Purdue."
Toledo returns to action in two weeks when it travels to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Purdue Fall Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 11-12.
