TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's golf team is heading to Manhattan, Kan. next week for Kansas State's Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. The Rockets will be playing at the par-72, 6,221-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course. Monday's action will consist of 36 holes with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun start.
The Rockets opened their 2021-22 season at Michigan's Wolverine Invitational earlier this week. The tournament featured 12 schools that were ranked in the Top 60 of last year's final Golfstat rankings, and Toledo finished in 16th place with a team score of 953. Junior Amelia Lee paced the Rockets at 20-over par 233 (80-76-77) and helped the Rockets post their best round of the tourney in the final 18 holes.
"Our experience in Michigan in our first tournament of the season is continuing to drive our team forward," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "They are hungry to tee it up again, and our practices have been very productive these past few days. Kansas State is another great test for us. Playing there could bring interesting wind conditions much like our last round in Michigan."
The Field
Toledo is competing against eight other schools. Joining the host Wildcats and Rockets in the field are Arkansas State, Incarnate Word, Kansas, Nebraska, Sam Houston State, Tulane and Wichita State.
This Week's Lineup
The Rockets' lineup will include junior Amelia Lee at No. 1, freshman Yedam Lee at No. 2, sophomore Cheryl Hong at No. 3, sophomore Angel Hii at No. 4 and sophomore Macy Hanus at No. 5. Hii topped the Rockets in the Coronavirus-pandemic shortened 2021 campaign with a 76.4 stroke average in six tournaments.
Up Next
The Rockets will take two weeks off before hosting the Rocket Classic at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 11-12.
