TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo head women's volleyball coach Jason Oliver announced the addition of two student-athletes to the Rockets' program on Tuesday. Sinalauli'i Uluave (Laie, Hawaii) and Elena Wagoner (Wooster, Ohio) will join Toledo for the 2021-22 academic year.
"To add two more recruits to our returning squad is a huge boost," Oliver said. "Elena comes in with a great work ethic and a solid skill set. She will provide depth at the outside hitter position and I really expect her to make us better in every aspect of the game. Sina comes in with a wealth of experience and a ton of talent. Her ball control and power will boost our output on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. I think both players will get us in system more often and really benefit our overall play. I am very excited to call them Rockets."
Uluave is transferring to Toledo from Wichita State, where she played two seasons as an outside hitter and libero with the Shockers. As a sophomore libero last year, she appeared in 17 matches, averaging 3.68 digs/set which ranked second on the team. She had 13 matches with double-digit digs, including a stretch of four straight 20-dig performances. The Hawaii native had a double-double against Tulane, notching 17 digs and 10 kills. She was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor roll after Wichita State's weekend series against Tulsa in which she averaged 4.86 digs/set. Uluave appeared in 27 matches as a freshman in 2019, registering at least 10 digs in 13 of them, including a season-high 16 at Tulsa on Sept. 27.
Wagoner, an outside hitter/defensive specialist, will join the Rockets after a stellar prep career at Wooster High School. A four-year letterwinner, Wagoner is a three-time all-conference player at Wooster and a two-time team captain. She averaged 2.7 kills per set and 2.1 digs per set during her career, peaking during her senior year when she averaged 3.0 kills/set and helped lead her team to a 15-6 overall record. Wagoner had six double-digit kill efforts her last season, including a season-high 16 in a victory over Ashland High School on Sept. 15.
