TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo student-athletes earned a combined grade point average of 3.343 in the 2021 spring semester, Vice-President and Athletic Director
Mike O'Brien announced today. It is the second-highest semester GPA for the Rockets, trailing only last spring's 3.527 mark. It is also the fifth consecutive semester in which UToledo student-athletes have earned a semester GPA of 3.3 or higher.
All 16 Rocket varsity sports earned at least a 3.0 GPA, only the second time that has occurred. Men's Golf recorded the highest semester team GPA with a mark of 3.660. Women's Swimming & Diving (3.655), Softball (3.639) and Women's Volleyball (3.636) were also above the 3.6 mark.
Other highlights from this past semester include:
- 59 student-athletes earned President's List honors with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
- 53.5 percent (208 of 389) earned a spot on the Dean's List by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA.
- 75.6 percent (294 of 389) made the Honor Roll by securing a 3.00 GPA or higher.
"Despite the continuing challenges created by the pandemic, our student-athletes have continued the proud academic tradition of Rocket Athletics with another outstanding semester," said O'Brien. "I am particularly pleased by the fact that all 16 of our varsity sports earned at least a 3.0 GPA. Special recognition goes to Head Coach
Jeff Roope and our men's golf program for posting our highest team GPA. As always, academic success is a team effort. Our Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) staff, led by
Tony Belt, continues to do a terrific job working with our student-athletes, as do the dedicated University faculty, coaches and parents who support and nurture their efforts in the classroom."
"The Student-Athlete Academic Services staff would like to commend the student-athletes for one of the best semesters in program history," said Belt, who serves as associate athletic director for student-athlete academic services. "The SAAS staff would also like to acknowledge those who have played a key role in assisting our student-athletes which includes: faculty members, University staff, coaches, tutors, academic coaches, and Athletic Department staff members for their support. Spring 2021 was unique in many ways but remaining consistent was our student-athletes willingness to adjust and overcome various challenges. An enormous "Thank You" goes to everyone on our SAAS staff who works directly with our student-athletes:
Stacy Bowers (Academic Coordinator),
Jillian Lehman (Assistant Director),
Ryan Moody (Academic Coordinator), and
Amanda Berchtold (Learning Specialist)."
