TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team will play three matches this week. A Tuesday trip to Buffalo will precede two home matches this weekend against Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan.
The Rockets and Bulls will battle at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Friday's match against the Broncos and Sunday's tilt with the Eagles are both scheduled for 1:00 p.m. starts at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
"This is a big week for our team," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Playing three conference matches in six days will challenge the players both mentally and physically. I feel confident that our training has prepared us for the week."
Last Time Out
Toledo visited arch-rival Bowling Green on Friday and won a close 4-3 contest.
The Rockets dominated in doubles play to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske won 6-2 on the top court, while senior Patricia Panta and sophomore Laura Morera won by an identical score on the No. 2 doubles court to clinch the point.
However the Falcons were able to win the first three singles matches to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the match. Alcala halved the deficit by winning on the top court (6-3, 6-1) to make it 3-2, then freshman Julia Kuszynski outlasted her BGSU counterpart on the No. 4 court to tie the match at 3-3. Kuszynski won the first set 6-2, lost the second 6-3, then came back to win the decisive third set 6-4.
For the second time this season, the Battle of I-75 came down to the final match, and freshman Shalini Tallamraju was able to defeat her Falcon opponent in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) to clinch the win for the Rockets and improve their record to 7-7 (3-3 MAC).
