Toledo Concludes Season with Matches against WMU, Ball State

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team will play its final two matches of the season this weekend, visiting Western Michigan on Friday before hosting Ball State on Sunday.
The Rockets (13-7, 9-3 MAC) have won their last seven matches and will look to end the season on a high note. Friday's contest against WMU is set for a 1:00 p.m. start in Kalamazoo and Sunday's tilt against the 2021 MAC Champion Cardinals will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
"The team is playing with a lot of confidence and they have a lot on the line to play for this weekend," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "They are excited to finish the season strong."
Last Time Out
Toledo defeated Buffalo at home last Friday, 4-3. The Rockets cruised to 6-1 victories on the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts to take the point and a 1-0 lead in the match. Freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske won first on the top court, then sophomore Laura Morera and senior Patricia Panta won on the second court to give their team the early lead.
Toledo won the first two singles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the match. Teske won decisively in two sets on the No. 2 court and Panta won in three sets on the No. 4 court to put UT on the brink of victory. The Bulls battled back though, earning two tough victories on the No. 1 and 3 singles courts to make it 3-2. Playing on the No. 5 court, freshman Shalini Tallamraju provided Toledo with the clinching win in a 4-3 victory for the second straight match, winning sets two and three over her UB opponent to hand the Rockets the match.
About Western Michigan
Western Michigan is 14-6 and 6-6 in MAC play entering Friday's match. Toledo won the previous meeting between these two teams, 4-3, on April 9. Lindsey Ziegler is 15-5 in singles play this season, sporting a 6-2 mark when playing on the No. 1 court.
About Ball State
Ball State has officially clinched the 2021 MAC Championship and owns a perfect 12-0 ledger in league play. The Cardinals are riding a 21-match winning streak heading into their Friday tilt with Northern Illinois. Mariya Polischuk and Rebecca Harrington both have 14 victories in singles play to lead the team, while the doubles tandem of Livia Lukacs and Victoria Sec is undefeated at 11-0. Ball State won the previous meeting against the Rockets on March28 in Muncie, 4-3.
