Toledo Takes Down NIU, 6-1, for Fifth Straight Win

DEKALB, Ill. – The University of Toledo women's tennis team (11-7, 7-3 MAC) won its fifth straight match on Friday, claiming a 6-1 road victory over Northern Illinois.
"The team played with a lot of mental toughness today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "It was pretty windy and cold at the start of the match, but they stayed tough and played smart. It's exciting to see the team play with so much confidence down the stretch of MAC season."
The Rockets started the day off by winning the doubles point, winning on the top two courts to go ahead 1-0 in the match. The top doubles pairing of freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske won 6-2 on the No. 1 court, then sophomore Laura Morera and senior Patricia Panta won 6-3 on the second court to clinch the point for UT.
Toledo won five of six singles matches to cruise to a 6-1 win on Friday. Panta finished first on the No. 4 court, then freshman Shalini Tallamraju won on the No. 5 court to bring the Midnight Blue and Gold to the brink of victory. Freshman Ava McQuillin won on the No. 6 court to provided the clinching point, then Alcala and Teske took down their Huskie counterparts on the No. 1 and 2 singles courts, respectively, to cap Toledo's big win.
The Rockets return home on Sunday to host Miami at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
