
Toledo Visits NIU & WMU This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team has a pair of tough road matches on the docket for this weekend. The Rockets travel to Northern Illinois on Friday before visiting MAC leader Western Michigan on Sunday.
"At this point, these two teams might be the strongest in the MAC," head coach Al Wermer said. "We've continued to improve and bring more to the table each match, so we're definitely going to have a shot."
Last Time Out
The Rockets dropped a close 4-3 contest to Ball State at home on Saturday.
Toledo started the match by winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Wojciech Szczesny and sophomore Krzysztof Wetoszka teamed up to win on the No. 3 court, starting Saturday's match off on the right foot. After Ball State won on court No. 1, the Toledo tandem of freshman Adam Kovac and senior Thawin Suksathaporn claimed a victory on the No. 2 court to clinch the point.
Singles play was a different story though, as the Cardinals were able to win four of the first five matches to come away with the win. Ball State won on courts No. 1, 2, and 5 to take a 3-1 lead, then Wetoszka handled his opponent on the No. 3 court to keep Toledo alive and make the score 3-2. The Cardinals were able to post a three-set victory on the No. 4 court, however, to clinch the match.
Scouting Northern Illinois
NIU won the previous matchup, 6-1, on March 12. The Huskies are 19-2 and 5-1 in MAC play entering Friday's match, and they are are 11-1 when playing at home. Bor Schweiger Muzar is 12-6 when playing on the No. 1 singles court, and the doubles tandem of Kristopher Ortega and Oliver Valentinsson are a team-best 15-4.
Scouting Western Michigan
WMU also won the previous matchup against Toledo by a 6-1 margin. The Broncos are 18-1 and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. Jannik Opitz possesses a 17-1 record in singles play, with all of his matches coming on the No. 1 court.
