Toledo Opens Home Season vs. Northern Illinois This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team opens its home campaign this weekend with a four-game Mid-American Conference series vs. Northern Illinois. The Rockets' games vs. the Huskies will be their first at Scott Park in nearly two years and will include the series opener on Friday at 3:00 p.m., a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single contest on Sunday at noon.

Toledo (13-9, 3-3 MAC) won its only two games by identical 10-2 margins at Buffalo last Saturday as its four-game series with the Bulls was shortened due to inclement weather. The Rockets needed only six innings to win the opener and five innings to capture the nightcap.
Sophomore Riley Mohr drove in seven runs in the doubleheader sweep, while sophomore Macey Moore went 5-for-6. The Rockets pounded out 20 hits against Buffalo with junior Anna Dixon (3-for-6, 3 RBI) joining Mohr and Moore with three or more hits in the twinbill. Senior Erin Hunt started both games in the circle for Toledo and allowed just five hits over 11 innings.
REVIEWING THE ROCKETS
Northern Illinois (7-15, 2-6 MAC) has dropped three out of four games in each of its first two weekends of conference play. The Huskies opened league action at Ohio before hosting Kent State last weekend. Junior Katie Keller leads NIU with a .391 hitting mark and also has a team-best 15 runs scored, 11 doubles and 18 RBIs. Freshman Claire Norred has started 13 of the Huskies' 22 games and possesses a 2-9 record and 3.80 ERA.
COMPARING TOLEDO AND NIU
Toledo ranks fifth in the MAC with a .289 batting average, while NIU is eighth with a .248 mark. The Rockets are second in the conference with a 3.73 ERA, with the Huskies ranking fifth with a 4.52 ERA.

- Senior third baseman Dayna Denner tops the team in hits (25), runs (15), doubles (7), home runs (8), RBI (17) and slugging percentage (.879). She also is tied for second with a .379 batting average.
- Denner also appears at or near the top of numerous categories in the MAC. She leads the conference in home runs (8) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.879), third in doubles (7), fourth in walks (12) and sixth in on-base percentage (.481).
- Sophomore first baseman Riley Mohr is hitting a team-best .529 (18-of-34) and ranks second on the team with five doubles, 15 RBIs and an .824 slugging mark.
- Junior right fielder Anna Dixon ranks second on the team with 22 hits and 11 runs scored and is tied for second on the team with a .379 batting average.
- Sophomore catcher Macey Moore is hitting .351 and was named the MAC's Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after hitting .833 at Buffalo last weekend. She possesses a 3.81 grade-point average as a pre-nursing major and ranks third on the team with a .541 slugging percentage.
- Sophomore left fielder Leah Munson (.302) and freshman center fielder Lexi Eckman (.300) are also hitting over .300. Eckman has scored eight runs in 11 games, while Munson ranks fourth on the team with a .415 slugging mark.
- Senior Erin Hunt (9-5, 3.25 ERA) is the Rockets' primary starter in the circle. She ranks second in the MAC in innings pitched (88.1) and strikeouts (97) and is tied for second with nine victories.
- Sophomore McKenna Schmidt is 3-0 with a 3.33 ERA in six appearances covering 21.0 IP.
