TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team hosts Oakland on Wednesday. The match is scheduled to be played at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m., the first home outdoor match for the Rockets this season.
| "The players are motivated to play Oakland, especially after losing to them last year," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Getting to play outside on campus so early in the season is exciting for the players." |
Last Time Out
The Rockets played outside for the first time last week, visiting USF and Florida Gulf Coast.
In Toledo's 6-1 defeat at USF, the doubles team of sophomore Sloane Teske and freshman Julia Kuszynski was victorious on the top court, and freshman Cassie Alcala won her singles match on the No. 1 court.
The match against FGCU was a close one, but Toledo ended up on the losing end of a 4-3 decision. The Eagles took the doubles point after winning on courts No. 1 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Rockets looked to make a comeback in singles play, winning three of the first four matches. Junior Eileen Carney disposed of her FGCU opponent first, winning 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 3 court. Freshman Shalini Tallamraju followed that up with a win on the No. 6 court (6-2, 6-4) and Teske won on the No. 2 court (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) to put the Rockets ahead in the match. Having previously won on the top singles court, Florida Gulf Coast claimed victory on the No. 5 court to tie the score at 3-3, then won the clincher on court No. 4 to take the match.
