TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's golf team will be in Greensboro, Ga. this weekend to compete in the Linger Longer Invitational co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer on Friday-Sunday, March 12-14 at the par-72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Club. Tee times for the tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day on the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
"Great Waters is a real solid test of golf," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "The guys are looking forward to getting back to competition after what seems like a long break. If the forecast holds true, it will be nice to have some playable weather. Fairways are generous, but like many Nicklaus courses it's going to require precise approaches. A hot putter will go a long way on these greens too, as they are pretty true surfaces. We are very thankful for Kennesaw and Mercer for inviting us."
The Rockets will be competing against a 16-team field that includes No. 40 Georgia Tech, No. 45 Virginia and No. 51 Charlotte. Also participating in the tourney with Toledo are Augusta, Chattanooga, FGCU, Georgia State, High Point, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mercer, MTSU North Alabama and Troy.
Â
The Rockets' lineup will include senior Nate Thomson, junior David Amm, sophomores NJ Botha and Palmer Yenrick and freshman Barend Botha.
Â
Barend Botha led Toledo to a solid performance at South Alabama's Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 14-16 by tying for seventh place with a six-under par 210 (75-68-67). He was honored for his performance by being named Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week. Sophomore NJ Botha finished two shots behind his younger brother in Mobile with a four-under par 210, good for a 14th-place tie.
Toledo finished in sixth place as a team in its second tournament of the season. The Rockets shot eight-under par 856 (290-285-281) over 54 holes by improving its score each round.
